A basic if now not classic building material, concrete has a varied and complex history in the world of architecture and art. When you think of Marcel Breuer and Le Corbusier, or the Eastern Bloc or Sol Le Witt and Donald Judd, you think concrete.

Taking my cues from the minimalists, I poured my own mixture of concrete into moulds and the results are sculptural objects that create absurd settings for brightly-colored accessories of the fall season. In the south of France, I set myself up in an old barn — after two days of cleaning it was transformed into a makeshift studio.  I worked a week on the wooden moulds and making the bespoke concrete blocks (I went through 450 kilograms of concrete).  And finally I spent several days shooting in the summer’s morning light.
